KUE CUCUR

 

It’s 9 o’clock on a shiny Thursday morning. The roads are not as crowded as if it was a weekend, a perfect time for a special snacks. I bought some of “kue cucur” and other snacks for breakfast as usual.

Kue Cucur is undeniably one of the most popular traditional snack of Indonesia. Kue Cucur is a native Betawi snack shaped like a serabi.

Kue cucur in every region has its own story. For Betawi, consider this sweet, crisp and chewy cake as a snack in Betawi traditional ceremony. Besides children, adults also love kue cucur. This unique snack is not only found in Jakarta, It can be found in almost all regions in Indonesia. This is usually found as roadside snacks and you can get it with only Rp.1000 (11 cents USD) per piece.

This snack made from wheat flour, rice flour, brown sugar, salt, and pandan leaves. This snack is lightly fried on a pan with oil so that the outer layer is crisp and sweetened by brown sugar, making it a tasty snack for your day. This snack is simple food that is easy to find on the sidewalk in the traditional markets and pastry shops in Indonesia. Kue Cucur is generally served with tea or coffee.

In Gorontalo, kue cucur called as ‘tutulu’. This snack is usually found when harvest season comes. Because kue cucur is made and eaten by farmers when harvest comes. Kue cucur in Gorontalo has existed since long time ago.

The simple cake can give particular taste to Betawi and Gorontalo people. Despite it’s sweet and oily taste, kue cucur always be favorite.

How to make Kue Cucur

Ingredients :

450 cc of fresh water

150 grams of brown sugar, thinly sliced

100 grams of granulated sugar

2 pieces of pandan leaves

300 grams of rice flour

30 grams of wheat flour

Cooking oil

How to make:

  1. Boil water, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and pandan leaves until sugar dissolves then sieve and let stand until warm.
  2. Pour into rice flour and wheat flour, and then stir it.
  3. Stir with a ladle for 20 minutes. For a more varied taste, little pieces of durian fruit or jack-fruit can be added in the batter.
  4. Warm 5 tablespoon of cooking oil in a small frying pan, and put the dough until pull the fibers.
  1. Pin a middle part with chopstick and then return the dough, until cooked correctly.
